Food for Others is in process of expanding! Check out some common expansion FAQs below to learn more about the upcoming changes.

Q: Why is Food for Others expanding?

A: Food for Others is expanding to open our new and improved My Market. My Market will enable clients to select their own food in a market-style environment.  The new market will also feature a community space where families can access other types of services. Client choice is empowering for clients as it allows them to select items according to their health, dietary, and cultural needs. It also reframes seeking emergency food assistance from a potentially isolating experience to a strengthening one. The market will also allow Food for Others to consolidate our operations to one location after moving to multiple auxiliary locations during COVID-19.

Q: When will the expansion be completed?

A: We’re currently estimating that My Market will open mid-January. Please sign up for our newsletter or follow us on social media @FoodforOthers to keep up to date on construction developments.

Q: What’s happening with the Power Pack Program?

A: Through December 23rd, the Power Pack Program will remain across the street at 2989 Prosperity Avenue. The program will then transition back over to the main warehouse located at 2938 Prosperity Avenue. Starting on January 3rd, P3 volunteers will conduct their packing and P3 drivers will pick up food at bay 3 (at the main warehouse), the same location the program started in prior to COVID-19.

Q: What will remain at Food for Others’ current warehouse space?

A: The current warehouse will be used to distribute food to community partners, neighborhood sites, and mobile sites. Additionally, donation drop-off will remain at bay 2.

Q: How will this affect parking?

We ask that you please have patience with us in the next few months. With the addition of construction, parking may be more difficult than usual. If you are struggling to find a space, please consider parking across Prosperity Avenue at our current P3 warehouse in an unmarked/reserved spot.

Q: How can I get involved?

A: Once the new space opens, a variety of new volunteer opportunities will open up. There will be more client-facing opportunities available. Volunteer shifts may be located at either the main warehouse or My Market. If you have any questions about how the expansion will impact volunteers, please contact volunteer@foodforothers.org.

Q: Who do I contact if I want more information?

A: If you have any questions about the new space, please contact info@foodforothers.org or call us at 703-207-9173.
