Food for Others Ribbon-Cutting of Expanded Facility

FAIRFAX, VA (January 31, 2023) – Food for Others, a regional food bank that distributed 3.7 million pounds of food to Northern Virginia residents in Fiscal Year 2022, invites you to a celebration of the grand opening of its newly expanded facility. The event will take place on Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 8:15am – 9:15am at the Food for Others headquarters in Merrifield, VA.

Food for Others has addressed food insecurity in Northern Virginia since 1995, providing free groceries to its neighbors in need. The new space expands on the organization’s mission, including a grocery store-like marketplace for emergency food assistance. Clients will be able to “shop” for their food at the new Food for Others My Market.

The expansion adds 10,391 square feet to Food for Others’ facility, doubling the size of the facility from inception. Located two doors down from the current warehouse, My Market will empower clients by letting them select food that best fits their lifestyle, individual preferences, and cultural needs.

The event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of the new choice marketplace and warehouse. Invited guests include:

  • Annie Turner, Executive Director, Food for Others
  • Supervisor Dalia Palchik, Providence District, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors
  • Aimee Garcia, Assistant Division Director, NCS, Fairfax County Government
  • Glenn Rosenthal, Founder and President, Rosenthal Properties

Where: Food for Others, 2942 Prosperity Avenue, Fairfax, VA 22031

When: 8:15am – 9:15am, Thursday, February 9, 2023

(In the event of inclement weather, the event will take place on February 16th.)

Why: To formally open the expanded facility, which will better serve Northern Virginia’s

food insecure residents by empowering them with meaningful choices and by

providing wrap-around social services.
