Tysons 5K & Fun Run: The Run Towards a Food Secure Future

On Saturday, September 26, staff and volunteers arrived bright and early at PenFed Plaza in Tysons Corner Center to prepare for our annual Tysons 5K & Fun Run.

Armed with decorations, donated water, informational materials, and plenty of enthusiasm, the team worked together to create a memorable experience despite the wind and uncertain weather leading up to race day.

By 7:20 a.m., participants began gathering in the plaza, ready to kick off the festivities. The excitement of the run only intensified as music from a live DJ filled the air while runners stretched, enjoyed donated treats, and connected with fellow supporters. By 8:00 a.m., the starting line was packed with determined runners and walkers eager to make a difference.

While the main mission for runners on the big day was fighting through tough winds and challenging hills, their impact extended far beyond the track and finish line.

They helped feed families.

They helped stock our shelves.

They helped create lasting change.

Before the race even began, every participant was already making a difference. Registration fees directly supported our efforts to provide food and resources to neighbors experiencing food insecurity. From seasoned runners chasing personal records to families enjoying a morning walk together, every participant played a role in supporting our mission.

The event’s success was made possible by the incredible volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who generously gave their time, resources, and support. Their commitment helped create a welcoming and energetic atmosphere that reflected the very best of our community.

As Hunger Action Month comes to a close, the Tysons 5K & Fun Run serves as a powerful reminder that addressing hunger takes all of us. Throughout September, our community raised awareness, advocated for change, volunteered, donated, and took action. The 5K was a celebration of that collective effort and the impact we can make when we come together around a common cause. As we move into the holiday season, we are inspired by this momentum and grateful for everyone who continues to help build a hunger-free community.
